How to clean and care for silver jewellery

Sterling silver (925) is a noble metal, but a living one: over time and in contact with air it tends to darken. The good news is that with a few simple habits your jewellery will keep its shine for many years.
Why silver tarnishes
Tarnish is a natural reaction of silver to sulphur in the air, in humidity and in some everyday products. It is not a defect and, in most cases, it is easy to remove.
Every day
- Put your jewellery on after perfume, creams and hairspray.
- Take it off to swim, shower, exercise or clean with chemicals.
- Wearing your pieces often helps — gentle contact with skin and clothing keeps silver polished.
How to store it
- Keep each piece separately in a closed pouch or box to avoid scratches and limit contact with air.
- Avoid bathrooms and damp places.
How to clean it
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth, ideally a silver polishing cloth.
- For gold-plated or enamelled pieces, use only a soft dry cloth: abrasive products can wear the finish.
- For filigree pieces, because of their delicacy, avoid brushes and never force the wires.
