Workshops

My Ignis Jewellery workshops take place throughout the year, with dates available for registration (check our social media) and the possibility of personalised scheduling.
They are designed for small groups or individual format, ensuring close monitoring and a carefully crafted experience, no prior experience needed.
Each session is an immersive and practical experience, exploring traditional techniques such as filigree, forging, or repoussé, at the pace of manual work.
At the end, each participant takes home their piece and, above all, a meaningful experience of creation and connection to the process.

All our workshops are held in our studio: Av. do Colégio Militar, 1500-187 Lisbon.

Portuguese Filigree Workshop

An introduction to the most emblematic technique of traditional Portuguese jewellery

Portuguese filigree is one of the most delicate and symbolic expressions of our material culture. In this intensive 3-hour workshop, participants will have direct contact with this ancient technique, learning the principles of wire construction, design composition, and structure assembly.

The session combines technical demonstration, guided practice, and individualized support, allowing each participant to create a simple filigree piece, understanding the rigor, precision, and sensitivity that this technique demands.

More than just learning a method, this workshop is an encounter with the slow pace of manual craftsmanship.

Information

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Format: Small group / Individual
  • Level: No previous experience required
  • Includes materials for exercise
  • Each participant creates a simple filigree piece
  • Price: 150€
  • Maximum group size: 5 people.

Repoussé Workshop

Shaping metal from the reverse side, revealing volume and depth.

This short repoussé course introduces the fundamental principles of relief modelling in metal. Over two 3-hour sessions, participants will explore the relationship between gesture, material, and form, developing technical control and material sensitivity.

Topics covered will include:

  • Preparation of the support
  • Concepts of relief, volume, and depth
  • Annealing and deformation control
  • Dialogue between repoussé and chasing

The experience culminates in the creation of a small original piece — a pendant, plate, or sculptural element — developed with individual technical guidance.

Information

  • Total duration: 6 hours (2 sessions)
  • Format: Individual
  • Includes all materials for exercises
  • Basic knowledge of sawing and soldering is recommended (preparatory class available)
  • Price: 350€

Forged Workshop

Exploring the strength and transformation of metal through gesture.

Forging is one of the fundamental techniques in traditional goldsmithing. In this intensive workshop, participants learn the principles of metal deformation, gesture control, work hardening, and annealing — understanding how metal responds to the direct action of the hand and tools.

The session begins with exercises in brass and culminates in the creation of a small silver piece, applying the technical principles learned.

This workshop is ideal for those who wish to experience the sculptural nature of jewellery and understand metal as a living material.

    Information

    • Duration: 3 hours
    • Format: Small group/ Individual
    • Includes technical exercises and creation of a piece
    • No prior experience required
    • Price: €150
    • Maximum group size: 5 people.

    Jewellery Making Initiation Programme

An intensive journey of technical learning and authorial development.

This private lesson program was designed to introduce and deepen three fundamental techniques of traditional goldsmithing — forging, chasing, and Portuguese filigree — through an educational journey that combines technical experimentation, authorial thinking, and contemporary creation.

Throughout 8 individual sessions (24 hours), participants are guided from initial technical exercises to the conception and execution of a functional and authorial piece, resulting from the combination of the learned techniques.

    The program includes:

    • Sawing and soldering
    • Hand forging
    • Repoussé
    • Portuguese filigree
    • Drawing applied to contemporary jewelry
    • Conceptual and technical development of an authorial piece
    • Professional finishing and polishing

The methodology prioritizes guided practice, technical demonstrations, and conceptual reflection, with the program adapted to the participant's pace and experience.

    Information

    • 8 private sessions
    • 3 hours per session
    • Total: 24 hours
    • Price: €1200
    • Full payment or per session
    • The silver for the final piece is charged separately according to weight and market value

This program is suitable for those seeking technical autonomy, creative development, and consistent deepening in goldsmithing.
